Dr. EFFIE CHOW
Effie Chow was born in China and grew up in a traditional family. After moving to the United States, she became a registered nurse. Although she supported Western medical practice, she concluded that traditional Chinese medicine, particularly Qi-Gong, had enormous potential value in maintaining health. Dr. Chow is Founder of the East-West Academy of Healing Arts in San Francisco, has authored several books, and in 2000, served on President Clinton’s White House Conference on Complimentary and Alternative Medicine. She is a world-renowned Qigong Grandmaster energy healer, acupuncturist, author, international speaker, Humanitarian, Futurist, and Visionary. Qi-Gong, which means “controlling the life force,” according to Chow, teaches that the balance of life elements in the human body is a microcosm of the balance of elements in the universe.
Effie Poy Yew Chow has for over 40 years been working to integrate Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with Western Medicine. “Giving individuals the power to determine and manage their own health and destinies is the secret of true healing” is her motto oward this goal, she founded the East West Academy of Healing Arts (EWAHA) in 1973 in San Francisco. In 1988 an arm of that organization, The EWAHA Qigong Institute, was established within EWAHA to promote research and clinical work in medical Qigong.
What has Dr. Effie Chow achieved
In 2003 Dr. Effie Chow was appointed by the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago to their National Task Force on The 21st Century Initiative on Life and Health. In 2004 she was invited onto the 15 member international Advisory Board of the CAM Health Expo, and in 2005 onto the 20 member Advisory Board of the National Library of Medicine-Asian American Health Website Users Group. May, 2005 Vancouver General Hospital Nurses Alumnae Assoc. awarded Dr. Chow as the “Most Distinguished Nurse Graduate”. In 2006, became an Associate of AHA! Ventures Int’l & GIMN. In 2007, the Editorial Board of the Boardroom Inc., Bottom Line Women’s Health Publications, and Editorial Board of the prestigious new “super peer-reviewed publication,”The Journal of the Science of Healing Outcomes”.Also in October, 2007 AAAOM honoured her as one of the “Pioneers and Leaders of Oriental Medicine in the USA”. November, 9, 2008: She was Knighted as Dame by the Sovereign Order of the Orthodox Knights Hospitaller of Saint John of Jerusalem. 2008, Advisory Board Member to PBS’ new 30 show series “New Discoveries in Alternative Medicine”. 2009, PBS produced a half hour documentary on her work with Qigong and TCM., 2009, named a Chinese American Hero for her contributions to Integrative Medicine.
In 2010, she featured on FOX News; was invited and accepted as a member of the Transformational Leadership Council. 2011, from the World Organization of Natural Medicine Registry: Doctor of Humanitarian Service, appointed as TCM-Health Ambassador at Large, Board Certified Doctor of Integrative Medicine from Board of Orthomolecular & Integrative Medicine established per the World Health Organization Alma Ata 1978 declaration and awarded affiliate Status with the World Organization of Natural Medicine. Strathmore Who’s who of the World. Dr. Chow was recently appointed North America CEO of Lee Hollywood Movie and Film China Co. The founder proclaimed that the World Tai Chi and Qigong Day April 28, 2012 happening in 70 countries is dedicated to Dr. Effie Chow and Dr. Kenneth Sancier.
Dr. Chow is founder and President of East West Academy of Healing Arts, American Qigong Association and World Qigong Federation. Qigong Grandmaster Effie Chow is the founder of the annual World Congress on Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine.There are a number of awards that honour Dr. Chow for being a pioneer/ leader in the fields of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Qigong, Natural & general health care.
